AESTHETIC SURGERY

Korekcija očnih kapaka

Rhinoplasty (also known as nose correction) is one of the most complex procedures in plastic surgery of the head and neck. The nose is located in the very center of the face, which significantly defines our overall appearance and profile. Even small irregularities can disrupt facial harmony, while difficulty breathing can impair the quality of everyday life.

At Ostojić Clinic, we address aesthetic and functional problems of the nose such as a protruding nasal septum, a humpback nose, or septal deviation.

Aesthetic nose surgery is a common choice for patients who are bothered by an overly large nose and wish to reduce it and adapt it to the proportions of their own face. In such cases, aesthetic nose correction is an excellent choice. During the rhinoplasty procedure itself, we focus on reducing and shaping the nose so that its final shape and size naturally blend with the other proportions of the face.

Nose correction can also be functional in nature — in cases where the patient has difficulty breathing through the nose, and the cause of the problem is a deviated septum, septoplasty or septorhinoplasty is performed.

The most common deformities are:
Humped nose (rhinokyphosis) — the most common deformity of the external nose, usually characterized by normal nasal breathing. The nasal "hump" consists of a bony and cartilaginous component. An isolated bony or cartilaginous hump is rarely diagnosed and occurs as a result of previous unsuccessful nose corrections.

Crooked nose (rhinoscoliosis) — is always the result of nasal trauma. A slightly crooked nose usually does not cause breathing difficulties, while a more pronounced form always makes normal nasal breathing difficult. Correction of a crooked nose is the most demanding type of rhinoplasty. The nose can be crooked in all thirds or only in the upper two or lower two thirds. Successful correction of a crooked external nose almost always requires straightening of the nasal septum, which achieves permanent normalization of nasal breathing. Therefore, it is a simultaneous aesthetic and functional correction in a single operative act (rhinoseptoplasty).

This procedure is available to all individuals whose facial bone growth is complete. This is usually after age 15 for girls and age 16 for boys. Additionally, candidates must have realistic expectations — the goal is to improve appearance and function, not to achieve a "perfect" nose from a photograph that may not suit their facial anatomy.

You are an ideal candidate for rhinoplasty if:

  • You seek a visible improvement in appearance while maintaining realistic expectations.
  • You have stable physical and mental health.
  • You are not satisfied with the size, profile, or projection of your nose.
  • You have deformities caused by trauma, injury, or burns.
  • You have congenital malformations that require reconstruction.
  • You are facing functional difficulties and impaired breathing.
  • You are at least 17 years old (facial growth complete), except in cases of earlier reconstructive procedures for congenital anomalies.

At Polyclinic Ostojić, during your consultation appointment, you will receive all the necessary information and instructions to go through the entire process safely and well-informed.

Doctor Ostojić will prepare and walk you through the complete preparation protocol, including a list of required tests and advice on temporarily quitting smoking and alcohol consumption. It is mandatory to avoid blood-thinning medications (Aspirin, Andol, etc.) at least 7 days before the procedure to reduce the risk of bruising and speed up the healing process. Before the procedure itself, you will have a preoperative consultation with our surgeon and anesthesiologist to confirm all details of the operative and postoperative course.

Nose correction at Polyclinic Ostojić is performed under general anesthesia, ensuring the patient a painless and safe course throughout the entire procedure. Depending on the complexity and goals of the procedure, the operation usually takes between 2 and 4 hours.

Aesthetic rhinoplasty can be performed using the so-called "closed" and "open" technique.

At Polyclinic Ostojić, most nose corrections are performed using the "open" technique, which begins with a small incision on the columella, the thin piece of tissue that separates the nostrils. This approach allows the surgeon to fully lift the skin of the nose, providing a direct and clear view of the entire bony and cartilaginous structure. Due to excellent visibility, this method is ideal for more demanding procedures, such as correcting major deformities or complex reconstructions of the nasal tip. Although the operation takes slightly longer and leaves a minimal, almost invisible scar, it provides maximum precision in shaping the new facial appearance. After the procedure, slightly more pronounced swelling is possible, but the results are more predictable and often more stable compared to closed techniques.

Recovery after rhinoplasty at Polyclinic Ostojić is a carefully guided process. Thanks to the use of analgesics administered via intramuscular injections, patients generally do not experience pain after the operation. In the first days after the procedure, a slight bloody discharge from the nose is normal. The timing of tampon removal depends on the type of procedure:

Aesthetic rhinoplasty: Tampons are removed the next day.

Rhinoseptoplasty and septoplasty: Tampons remain in the nose for 3 to 5 days.

The appearance of bruises and swelling on the face and eyelids is a normal body reaction. They reach their peak 2 to 4 days after the operation, while complete regression (subsiding) is expected within 10 to 14 days. It is important to note that the tip of the nose may remain numb (a state of hypoesthesia) for 2 to 4 months after the procedure, which is part of the normal healing process of nerve endings.

During the first month after the procedure, patients must strictly follow these rules:

  • Strictly avoid any trauma or physical manipulation of the nose.
  • All strenuous training is prohibited, especially contact sports.
  • Wearing heavy glasses that put pressure on the bridge of the nose is not recommended.

As with any surgical procedure, there is a possibility of certain complications with rhinoplasty, such as infection or bleeding. Our expert team will inform you in detail about all precautionary measures during your consultation. It is important to emphasize that by strictly following all preoperative and postoperative instructions received, the risk of these occurrences is minimized.

During the healing process and "settling" of tissue in the postoperative period, minor, temporary irregularities or slight asymmetries are not excluded. Such occurrences are usually part of the normal healing process and typically resolve completely within one year of the procedure, when the nose takes on its final shape.
